His plan is world domination!
By CSNDecember 6, 2009How did you spend days after the Worlds?
After the World Champs I had 4 weeks with very little training in the boat. But I still did a lot of exercise, especially mountain biking. I went to Scotland for 10 days holiday with Tim Baillie from C2 Baillie/Stott – it wasn’t a very relaxing holiday… we did plenty of biking at the excellent trail centres around Scotland and climbed some mountains.
What are you doing in these days?
Now I am fully into winter training. At this time of year I normally paddle 1 time per day and the 2nd training is in the gym, lifting weights, or some kind of cross training – either running, road bike or mountain bike.
World domination! Haha, I don’t know… nothing unusual. Compete at the big races and try to win!
Are you satisfied with the season 2009?
Yes, I was quite satisfied. It was a good season – I was in the final at every race, won a World Cup, Gold in teams at Euro Champs, Silver in teams at World Champs and 4th place in individual the World Champs. I would have liked to perform better than 5th place at the Euro Champs, which were on my home course in Nottingham. And of course, I wish I had not hit a gate in the final at the World Champs!
How is going to be your preparation and where are you going for the winter training camp?
Preperations are good, the weather has been quite nice so far this winter in Nottingham. We are quite lucky, it is possible to paddle on the whitewater here all year. But I will choose to train in Penrith, Australia for 5 weeks from mid-January to miss the worst part of winter.
What are your plans for next year?
World domination! Haha, I don’t know… nothing unusual. Compete at the big races and try to win!

Which are your favourite courses?
I like many of the World Cup courses. Some of my favourites are Prague, Bratislava, Augsburg and Tacen. I’m looking forward to racing in 2010 because I love all the venues, especially Bratislava for the Euros and Tacen for the Worlds.
Which other sports do you also like?
I like to watch sport on TV, especially big Rugby Union matches like the 6 Nations. And any Olympic sports, like athletics, track cycling, swimming, plus winter sports. To do myself – mountain biking, climbing and orienteering (but its hard to find time for them between canoeing!)
