The Little Gorilla
By CSNDecember 6, 2009Kamil Kaniscák, 4th from this year’s European Championship under 23, talks about his season:
Why Little Gorilla?
Haha, There was in Cunovo. I’ve prepared a course for full-runs training and after warm up I saw that one British coach is changing gates. I started to be a little angry and I asked him to stop doing it. After my session friends were laughing near the boat house “little gorilla, little gorilla,” you know… They told me that the coach had came back from venue and told them: “Be aware, there is mad little gorilla!”.
What did you do after Europeans?
After European Championship under 23 in Liptovsky Mikulas I had one week rest and then I start training again to be good at Slovak and Slovenian Open. After these races I was resting again and I went to Seu to see the Worlds. And then I went for holiday to Greece. So I’m relaxed well.
There was in Cunovo. British coach was coming back from venue and said “be aware, there is mad little gorilla!”
How did you start your winter preparation?
At the end of October I began winter preparation with condition training camp in Rajecké Teplice. After coming back to Bratislava I was still 2 weeks paddling in Čunovo, lifting weights and running. Now I am paddling on Danube, where I’ll be paddling all winter instead of Čunovo, when I’m in Bratislava. There is a quiet time in school, so I have time for training.
And is going to be the rest of your preparation?
It will be a little bit shorter, in February I should be in Australia already. I will be training similar as I did 2-3 years ago.
How was your season 2009?
At the beginning it seemed alright. I won ICF ranking race and I was paddling good, but before selections I felt tired and I was sick. Just nearly 2 months before Europe championship under 23, when my school finished I was fit again psychically and physically. I was perfectly ready for Europeans as you can see the result. I finished 3rd at Slovak Open and without the touch I would be a Slovak champion. Season 2009 was the best one ever.
What are you planning for next season?
Start paddling soon in the spring, finish good at selections, have lots of trainings in Markkleeberg and let’s see…
Which course do you like and which don’t?
I haven’t been paddling at many courses, but I like most water in Lipno and the worst one is in Krakow for sure.
Except paddling which sports do you practise?
I like playing football, volleyball, squash and floorball. During the season I almost never do any other sport, only slalom.
